Wishing You a Blessed Lenten Season

Lenten season is upon us Catholics, and I genuinely look forward to it. My faith is important to me, so much so that I completed my Confirmation twice* because my original records were lost in a church fire. Goes to show how old I am: the records weren't digitized!

I was born and raised in the Catholic faith. One of my fondest memories as a child, and I don’t have many, was going to church with my grandfather every Sunday. Just the two of us. And then he’d take me for doughnuts and hot chocolate after. Whenever I feel lost, I let my faith guide me. It is my foundation. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect others to share my beliefs. I firmly believe in to each their own. And I’m not delulu…I could be completely wrong, and when we die, we simply die and cease to exist. But personally, I prefer to have faith and believe in a higher power. I look forward to the day I am reunited with my dog and my dad. And hey, if I am wrong, I’m not hurting anyone. I always tell people that my Catholic faith is my “after-life insurance policy.”
I am approaching this Lenten season differently. In the past, I approached the season thinking I had to deprive myself to do Lent “right”. But I realized that is not what Lent is about. Lent is about self-reflection and a time to renew my faith. I am taking this time to focus on my mind, body, and spirit. To my fellow Catholics, I wish you a blessed Lenten season filled with hope, love, and renewal.

I am extremely grateful to my friend at the time, who kindly sponsored me when I had to do my Confirmation for the second time. The only reason I’ve covered her face is to respect her privacy; it is not a slight in any way, shape, or form. She is a wonderful person, and I am thankful she took the time to sponsor me.
